"This particular car sucks"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1- Gear shifter broke off inside column.

2- Valve in torque convertor worn.

3- Plate that holds seat broke in half.

4- Power door lock failed.

5- Steering box seal blew.

6- Gear selector indicator broke.

7- Connector valve in vacumn system cracked.

8- Computer module for high gear failed.

Should I go on?

General comments?

I had 237,000 miles of great service on my 1993 Crown Vic. Only had to replace the alternator at 160,000 miles.

It seems that your car has been neglected or REALLY abused, either by the previous owner or yourself (some folks just add gas and do NOTHING else)

Other than the poor gas mileage (for this day and age) the Ford Crown Vic (and Mercury Grand Marquis) are the best rated Ford (And Mercury, respectfully) cars ever built.

I've owned a grand marquis for almost a year now and have treated it so poorly. it already has 100,000 and she still drives strong. best car I've ever owned.

Having read the list of varied problems this car has had, I must come to one probable conclusion: It is a tragedy, but these parts did not all fail without some human intervention. No car I ever owned, used, abused, or misused was ever so prone to mechanical failures as you describe. They included manufacturers from Hudson to Porsche, but none of my cars ever had the litany of failures you claim.

The transmissions in these cars is utter crap. Well, it's average for a Ford, or for an American car anyway. Be wary of anyone who claims to get 200k miles out of the original transmission because they are full of it. You're lucky in most cases if the transmission in these cars lasts 120k. The only Fords of this era that seemed to have better transmissions were the Tempo and Escort, Ford's two cheapest cars. Go figure. All other Ford's of the era had transmissions that were lucky to last 100k miles, and rarely lasted longer.

How about some factual evidence? This is all your opinion and means nothing. You probably haven't driven the car. Or maybe you got a 1990 taurus with 250k on the clock and got angry when the tranny failed. weak...

DO not listen to the previous guy he is most likely some foreign car fan throwing off on Fords. Most Ford transmissions are great not just the tempos and Escorts.

I bought a 93 Merc Grand Marquis 4 years ago. It had low mileage when I got it (39k) and I have driven it another 120,000 miles with NO maintenance except for front brakes and spark plugs. (I just gave it to a family member in need)

I just bought a 97 Crown Vic with 60,000 on it, to replace the Merc, I fully expect to get another 120,000 to 150,000 miles more out of this one.

Great cars they are.

I've got a 1993 crown vic with 300,000+ miles on the original transmission, runs great. Never had to replace anything. Treat your car well, and it'll treat you well.
