2000 Ford Crown Victoria P71 review from North America
"Return of the Muscle car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Headlights and horn needed rewiring. They were cut when police equipment was taken out.
Proportioning valve and rear brake pads and rotors replaced. 63,500.
General comments?
This is a big, heavy, and safe car. The police package gives this car serious stopping power. It never overheats with the over-sized cooling system. I have owned Chevy Caprice police cars with the LT-1 and this car beats it hands down. It takes off the line faster with the 3:55 rear. The heavy duty trans always shifted nice and quick. It never burned fluid with the trans cooler. This is a great highway car with tons of passing power. It has a lot of room inside and the bucket seats are comfortable. The rubber floor covering were easy to clean. More than enough room in the trunk, even with the full size spare.
It is not great in the winter. Even with snow tires it slides rather easily (Mine didn't come with Trac-Control). Trac-Loc (POSI) rear would also help (optional).
Give yourself lots of stopping distance in the rain.
I got about 14/15 MPG highway and city combined. I would get a solid 20/21 on the highway.
People get out of your way on the highway, they don't tail gate you, and they drive civilized when they see this car. A lot of fun to drive.
Sadly this car was involved in an accident. I was side swiped on a major highway. My car slid across three lanes of traffic into a divider. The car was totaled. The Paramedics said I only survived because of this car. Not only was it a big car, but the police package gave this car an extra reinforced frame.
