2007 Ford Escape Limited from North America - Comments

"Big and powerful SUV that handles a lot like a sports car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Seat warmer switches are in an inconvenient location.

Seat springs are too close to the surface of the leather.

Rear seat headrests block view of rear windshield.

General comments?

The 3.5L V6 engine provides much better acceleration and power than the Nissan XTerra or Pathfinder, or the Jeep Liberty.

This car is sporty and fun to drive. The 2005-07 model year chassis is sleeker and much better looking than the new 2008 model year.

More cargo space and easier access through the rear hatchback than the Liberty or XTerra.

If you consider an Escape, it's definitely worth coughing up a few thousand more dollars for the Limited. The lower-end models have a lot of plastic, Naugahyde and cheap chrome on the interior and have a cheesy feel.

Outstanding handling and extremely easy to maneuver for an SUV.

No ford escape has ever had the 3.5L. only the ford edge and new taurus (ford 500) out of fords line up have it. Too bad the 08's don't have it because that would put them at the top of that class.

The fuel economy of the Limited is terrible, but they DO warn you of that on the sticker. We bought ours and were just squeaking out 14 mpg. We changed over to Nitrogen filled tires (only cost 30 dollars as they had a special going on at the local dealer) and actually saw 15.7 mpg around town and the ride was actually better. I was skeptical at first, but would recommend this to any that have this vehicle for the ride alone.

Nitrogen in the tires does NOT improve mileage. What Nitrogen is good for is for lazy vehicle owners that don't check their tire pressure very often. Normal air seeps out of tires more quickly than nitrogen so the only way for anyone to get better mileage from putting nitrogen in the tires is because the "air" pressure was too low to begin with, causing more friction between tires and the road, causing the engine to work harder, causing a decrease in fuel mileage. Since the nitrogen takes longer to seep out of the tires, the tires stay at the proper inflation pressure, and mileage is maximized. BTW it is free to check your tire air pressure once a month at a gas station and fill as required.

An Escape is a "big and powerful SUV"??

Compared to what, a Suzuki Samurai?
