2008 Ford Escape Hybrid review from North America
"Cool. An SUV that gets better MPG than my last car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
None.
General comments?
So far I drove 6500 miles and it's so unbelievable that I get about 37mpg in the city and 30mpg highway. City mileage on hybrids is more because when you use the brakes, the engine shuts off and the battery charges. I wouldn't get a regular SUV because they use a lot of gas. This SUV is a hybrid so I gave it a try.
It rides great and it's not underpowered either like my last car. A Ford Five Hundred. I think that was because the 3.0 engine was too small for the weight of the car. However I heard they did a better job with the new Taurus, which still looks like the Five Hundred.
The transmission on this Escape Hybrid is different than regular transmissions. This one is a CVT transmission that has no gears and will take time to get used to. Once you are used to it you will love it.
It has a good stereo system as well.
It is a hybrid, but still has the SUV handling attitude in bad weather which is good. It has plenty of both passenger and cargo room, and the leather seats make long trips very relaxing.
The one thing they should improve is the cup holders. Other than that I love this thing.
