So far nothing has gone wrong wit the car although when I'm going 80 the pedal vibrates a lot and its hard to shift it into first gear when its still moving you have to be completely stopped.
I love this car it took me 4 months to find it because it is so rare to have a 5spd escape. I have the black sheep of the escapes lol. For a small engine it really has some get up and go and the 4x4 system is great I can't believe I found one that's 4x4 I encourage anyone to buy one also I get great gas mileage for an SUV 22city and 30hwy I truly love it it was worth the four months of waiting for it.
I completely agree with you that the 5 speed manuals are very peppy, extremely rare, and amazing vehicles in every way. I just drove a one owner with 58000 miles on it, it was a 2001, 4x4, with a stick. It had a lot of power to it.
As far as yours goes, they are designed to be at a complete stop before shifting into 1st gear. 1st gear and reverse are both synchronized so you need to be at a dead stop before shifting into those. Good luck, and I hope it turns out to be a great one!
