2002 Ford Escape No Boundries review from North America

"A good choice if you prefer an SUV that leans toward the "truck" side of handling"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

So far, not much bad has happened. The Anti-lock brakes acted up shortly after purchase, and the faulty sensor was replaced by the dealer. It's had the recall services done, and our only current problem is an occasional bout of air-bag error codes being flashed, but it's intermittent and goes away after a couple miles. Probably a bad connection. The handle for the window on the lift gate broke recently, and I have yet to replace it.

Nothing else, really.

General comments?

The Escape was purchased to replace a dying Bronco II, and does it better than expected. In the northeast, we are used to snow and icy roads. The Escape has barely slipped a wheel going up hills other SUV's couldn't. I even passed a local police Blazer who couldn't make it up one hill, but that's another story. Anti-lock brakes work great in slippery conditions. Noisy, but they're great.

Fuel mileage is what I expected (average is ABOUT 20), and acceptable for the vehicle. Enough power to do the job, and drive ability is good. Handling is by far better than the Bronco II.

Seats are reportedly uncomfortable to some, but they fit my body well, and after several 2000+ mile vacations, I have no complaints about them.

The suspension is more like a truck (my preference) and not all squishy like a car would be.

I really like the No Boundaries look too.
