1986 Ford Escort review from North America
"Incredible"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I thought it was the radiator, but it turned out it was one of the hoses that goes to the radiator had a small hole in it, so I replaced it. This was right after I got the car.
Starter went at 150k. Easy and cheap to fix. I bought a new starter and fixed it myself. The starter on this car is easier to get to than on the Mercury I use to have!
General comments?
I was the 3rd owner of this car. I bought it for $300 with brand new brakes and tires. When I first test drove it, I quickly fell in love with it.
No big mechanical problems despite of it being 20 years old. Roomy for packages, people, and pets. All without blind spots!
I got about 27mpg in this car. Maybe because I only did a few oil changes for the 2 years I had it.
This was just a basic station wagon with no power windows, tilt wheel, or cruise control.
The heater never worked, but I never cared since I live in Arizona. You do not need to use heat here. I also did not have AC. So what I just did was roll down all the windows and go very fast and felt like I did have AC. LOL!!!
The Escorts are the best cars out there. Now I have another one and it's a 2 door hatchback.
