1995 Ford Escort LX from North America - Comments

"Super Slow Escort LX"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1) Check Engine Light comes on

2) Windshield Wiper Switch Failed.

General comments?

This is the slowest car on the face of the earth. The automatic transmission is clumsy and too slow to shift, this car can't even get outta its own way. Its got OK A/C, but forget trying to run the thing because then the car just sits there and can barely even move at all with it running. I can't believe in 1995 Ford was still making this tired old engine this car isn't up to standards with most of the other 95 cars out there even a 3 cylinder Metro is faster than this thing. Hopefully I can trade this thing in next year and get something else something that will at least pull its own weight.

I run high octane, premium gasoline in my Ford Escort 1.9 LX because it is the only thing that will allow me to run the A/C and drive down the road at the same time. The weak 1.9 liter Ford motor was designed for regular fuel, but only premium will maintain any power under the huge load of the air conditioning compressor. The reliable and more powerful Mazda 1.8 liter, 16-valve engine found in the Escort GT should have been used in all Escorts.

It is really too bad the previous comments were so negative. I have just purchased a low-mileage 95 with auto and AC, and I really quite like it. Sure it is not a real fast car. So what? I am not a kid any more. And, contrary to other comments, regular fuel is fine, and the AC is only a real drag if you have to go from a standing start into freeway traffic. Premium fuel to get more power? Not unless there is another problem or modification we haven't heard about.
