Hi, can anyone help me? I've done a few bits to my gti!
I have 2 letter cams throttle and maf! 4-2-1 manifold de-cat and power flow cat back. K&N and a chip! Everything was fine until the cams went in! Now it won't run with the chip! I removed the chip and when you start it up and drive it, it just doesn't go anywhere! I'd be lucky to get 20 mph. But if I let it warm up, it drives OK, but nowhere near how it should!
If anyone has got any idea I'd be grateful. Thanks.
You've de modded it mate. You need to get it re-tuned fuel flow airflow everything is now out.
Add to above comment: the cams have to be locked out. If it's done wrong, your timings out. If the timing's out, get ready to lose a valve or two.

If you've overdone it on timing belt tension, it won't make a difference on performance, but could either snap or take another thing out; ie water pump bearings. You can under do the tension, but then belt would jump, causing the timing to go out.
Add to above again LOL, not running cold, auto choke not working is the most likely cause.
My ABS light is constantly on; how bad is this?

Mine was on until I had all the brakes done! New shoes, discs and pads! Then it went off! But with Fords it could be anything.
Depends if your car stops when you brake LOL. Normally wear limit or a knackered/or just dirty censor.

Any of you lads know about the Ford F1 chips being discussed in the 2002 Puma review?
Oh no don't start that on here too! LOL.
F1 chips, haha I gave up reading that thread once these were mentioned.
Lol.
I had a '98 Escort GTi for 8 years and it was a great car. No major problems.
As for doing 140mph in an unmodified Escort GTi... I don't think so!
Acceleration was adequate, but not breathtaking. My friends Cosworth was frickin quick.
Don't think you can beat the looks/equipment though for a standard (Ford) car. Everyone I know commented about how nice it looked, especially when it had been lovingly polished... 3 door panther black... yummy!
Just sold mine for 800 :o (... paid 9000 8 years ago. Depreciation sucks!
You can pick up some lovely examples of these motors v. cheaply that have not been messed around with.

Cheers for the (ABS) response, I'm putting it into a garage on Monday and having clutch and suspensions done so I'll get them to check the brakes too, the best part is the guy I just bought it off is paying cause he put it on warranty.

I, ve got a 1998 GTI very nice car, but I'm having probs with it and could do with some advice.
It starts fine, but I need to let it tick over for about 10 minutes until the temp gauge goes in the normal range then it drives perfect. If I don't do this the car starts stuttering and revs erratically and loses some power, it still drives, but it struggles a bit on acceleration. Had all the sensors changed and also temp sender so I have no idea what else I can do to fix the problem.
