Can anyone please tell me how much break you get from a 115ps by fitting theMondeo cams and throttle bodies???

They reckon the throttle body combined with the air mass flow sensor (and a decent air filter) should give about 3-5 bhp. The cams can vary, again probably no more than 10bhp. Hope this helps.

Hi. I have a Ford Escort GTI.. but I've gone a different way as you lot.. I have put a Mondeo ST 24 engine in mine, and OK I needed a lot of work to make it run, but it was worth it :D.

Also I'm considering a turbo conversion.. or maybe try and put a nice twin turbo V6 or V8 in it.. I don't mind cutting out the floor to fit it. Then it would give me a chance to make a new fiberglass dash with built in 10" speakers. As I've already got fiberglass doors with 5, 7" alpine speakers in each door :D.

Can anyone help?

I'm off to the breakers yard tomorrow and just wanted some last minute confirmation.

That a mk2/3 Mondeo 2 ltr throttle body can be put in place of my 1.8 Escort GTi 1997 original body??

Help would be great, my email is benji_perry@hotmail.com

Cheers.

Hey, I have a Ford Escort 1.8 GTi. It has been well modified on the outside, but I want more pull to it. Already had K&N, and thinking of a decat. It's had a little bit more, still not sure about it. Think the BHP is around 120. What would you suggest?

It's just nasp so unless you spend big bucks you won't get much out of it and exhaust and breathing mods combined would be lucky to get you an extra 10bhp.

I would just buy something faster as standard, it will be cheaper and easier to insure. If you are determined to modify a car for performance then I would start off with a turbo'd engine just so that power gains are easy and noticeable.

I've had my red GTI for about 4 years. It's now done 70000 miles and I know the previous owner who was a publican, so that explains the low mileage.

I have had two 70's RS 2000 Escorts, and 2 Escort Turbos from the 80's. I loved all these cars to bits. I remember a friend buying a new GTI Golf and I had a lot of fun showing how my RS2000 could really sort out the Golf in all driving disciplines, except for top speed because of the 5 speed box.

Then later I picked up a new 12v Golf GTI for a friend when I had my RS turbo. Although the engine was sweet in the Golf, everything else was awful, especially the German seats, and my RS was better all round. I could go on, but when my friend was selling his GTI Escort, I wanted a everyday car and what great value it has been.

I'm too old to revert to my boy racer days, and the car is slower than I would like, but it cruised to Spain 4 up and luggage including an inflatable boat and 15hp engine easily at 95-100mph, and returned mid 30's fuel consumption overall. It is a shame that the power comes in late, but it easily copes with my drum kit and has never let me down over 50000 miles.

Complaints? I'm always banging my head on the hatch catch, which is painful and draws blood! Watch out for rust on the sills edges under the car. Shame there wasn't a CD player and remote locking.

Benefits -- ABS air con, very reliable and comfortable, even though the Recaro seats in the previous Escorts were fantastic.

I'm ignoring the scrapage scheme as the car is so good it would break my heart to be very not green and see it scrapped, when I reckon I could keep it another 2 years.

Hello.

I've got a 1.6 Si Escort with a Peco exhaust and K&N air filter, and mine tops out about 105.

Please help.

No point in even attempting to get any more power, a 1.6 Escort is as dead as a door nail.

Can anyone tell me why my Escort GTI keeps holding its revs when driving? I can put it into neutral, and it keeps the revs up to wherever they were when I took my foot off the gas. Other than this, I love the car.

The idle speed control valve (found at the back of the head and a bit awkward to get to because of the inlet manifold!) are prone for sticking, and this could be the cause of your revs holding up. You may be able to clean it out with brake or carb cleaner, if not then you can get replacement ones new off ebay for about £25.

Hope this helps.
