1996 Ford Escort LX review from North America

I got this car at 72,000 miles from my grandmother. It's now at about 88,000.

The first problem I had was one of the front springs popping out. Along with that, I had to replace the shocks, struts, tie rods and front springs. As well as get a transmission flush and get new wipers, and oil change, new filters all around, new back lights, tire alignment/rotation, and my seatbelt was also fixed because the track was messed up. All of these repairs were done within a one week timespan of eac hother and totaled me about $1,200. It was worthit though because there is nothing else wrong with my car right now, yet.

There are little things that bother me, but I don't feel like dishing out money to get them fixed because I've adapted to them somewhat. The temp gage on the dash won't go to the left all the way. So basically I can't have a cold air flow through the vents. The dash starts to make a vibrating noise when I hit a bump on the highway. The speedometer goes crazy after I hit 75. It fluctuates back and forth between 100mph and 60mph. The gas gauge is horribly inacurate. It always says that I have less gas than I really have. When it's on empty, I've found that I still have about 3.3 gallons left. Also the stock speakers and just horrible. About three of them have blown. I took out the tape deck and put in a new CD player, along with some new lightning audio speakers.

Great handling and traction.

Good gas mileage, although inconsistent.

Roomy car, very spacious in the front and the trunk has plenty of room.

Fun car to drive, picks up well.
