2002 Ford Excursion Ltd review from North America

"I may have only owned my Excursion a short time, but, I know it will be no disappointment"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No problems. I realize the car is new to me, but I was able to obtain a repair history report from the dealer I bought it from. The original owner purchased it at the same dealer, and had all the services performed there. I am a auto repair technican with over 11 years experience. During this time i've worked as a diesel technican also, and can verify that if routine maintenance is performed the 7.3L engine is well worth the cost over the gas engine option.

General comments?

People need to realize that not all of us have 1-2 kids, a little ankle bitter, and enjoy staying at home, or in hotels. I have a family of 6 and NEED the room! We traded up from a 2003 Expedition, good vehicle, but for us, too small. Someone said that on the Ford website there was no mpg rating for the Excursion. That is because, if a vehicle is over a certain GVWR, then it dose not have to list average fuel ratings. Our Expedition averaged 15-16mpg in a good mix of city/highway driving. On trips it was more like 19-20mpg. these are numbers without a trailer. Anything in those ranges with the Excurson is fine with me. The added room is worth more at the pump to us. If the diesel gets 18+, all the better. I also own a 2003 F-350 4X4 crew cab dually. It has the 7.3L also. I ordered it new with a manual trans.. It has a 4.30:1 gear ratio, and I get 18-19mpg unloaded with that. Lets see a gas job beat that.
