"Very nice truck. Great family vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No real problems, does wander on the road though.

General comments?

Just purchased the Excursion a couple of weeks ago to use as a work truck/ family vehicle. I love the Power Stroke diesel. It has great power and with the superchips performance chip I am getting 26 MPG on the highway and 21 MPG in town. However, it takes a lot of concentration to keep it on the road. It likes to wander back and forth in the lane. This is the first Ford I have ever owned and I don't know if this is because of the solid front axle and the heavy motor or if there is something that needs to be adjusted. It is most noticable at 55 or below. On the highway at 70 + it drives great. I will definately keep the truck if only for the fuel mileage, but my Chevy's were much easier to drive. I have driven other Ford diesel trucks which drove much better so I am inclined to believe this truck just needs something. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Hello, Congrats on the Excursion, and Good choice on the PSD!!

I currently own a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4 with a 4.0L OHV V6, and have looked into an Excursion among other vehicles, I would love to have a diesel, but I think I have settled on a Lincoln Aviator for many reasons mostly ride quality, size, power and overall design. If I needed anything bigger, I would purchase an Excursion PSD without hesitation, they are amazing vehicles with amazing potentials.

The wandering you described being that is is speed related, could be one of a few things, most likely you need to have you tire's balanced and rotated and your alignment checked.

This should be done as a precaution with every oil change to ensure maximum life of your tires.

However, does this occur when the vehicle is towing, loaded down with people or luggage, or just you driving? do you have after market rims or larger tires?

Any of these things may affect the way the vehicle handles, but I strongly suggest getting the alignment checked and tires rotated and balanced.

Also I would like to direct you to this Ford powerstoke diesel Forum:

it is a great resource filled with lots of knowledgeable people.

I am currently a member on this site, as well as a member on ExplorerX.com.

Good luck with everything!
