1999 Ford Expedition XL from North America - Comments

"This was my first and last Ford, think I'll go back to Chevy's"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

99 Expedition bought used with 34,000 currently 79,000.

Where do I start...

*loud tap near transmission unable to locate exact prob.

*right headlight only works when you smack it.

*passenger window works when it wants.

*passenger lock works when it wants.

*dash signals work when they want.

*odometer works when it wants.

*driver open door signals works when it wants.

*head gasket leak or weep (mechanic said leave it alone

deal with the occasional smoking, cost more to fix than truck is worth, I never let the dealer touch my vehicles they're job is to make money period, so they'll either over charge you if you don't have a warranty or if you do they deny problems or find loop holes to make it your fault so you have to pay for repairs)

*rear windshield wiper (I fixed that myself just take off the wiper housing and tighten the the main tension bolt works perfect ever since)

*tie rods.

*3 sets of brakes.

*roaters.

*calipers.

*ball joints.

*had to drop and flush the transmission.

*plugs & wires.

*battery.

*quite a few alignments.

*very expensive tires (from misalignments why it keeps going out of alignment we can't figure out)

*child safety lock decides to play tricks on rear right side passengers and engage when it wants.

*radio light went perm. dim.

*shudders like going over a cattle grate while on the highway.

*pops and clanks with a slight tire slip (like on ice) when you turn slowly (as when parking) left or right.

*oh yea the latest... it refuses to start... its not the starter, or the battery, or the alternator, or the fuses.. it just won't start.. when you turn the key over all the lights and signals (the dependable ones) come on, all the gages read good and you can hear the solenoid strike, but the starter won't turn over, but the radio light is nice and bright again.

***Since this last issue just for the heck of it we tried to start the truck and noticed that the radio light was dim so we thought hmmm.. yeap it started. The next day my husband took it to work, but when he got in to come home he immediately new it was a no go radio light was bright... truck still sitting at his job. My mechanic said he'd get to it ASAP we just need to tow it there, in the mean time he (my mechanic) is going to network with his buddie mechanics for ideas about this so he'll be prepared a little when he gets to take on my latest task for him. Hes actually pretty nice and a very good mechanic he takes my chores in stride calling me his continuing education coach because I always give him challenges he said with me around he'll never be bored or poor!! (he's really kind with his labor charges he has a family and kids and hates to see a mother stranded)

I think that whoever sold you this Expedition sold you a car that should have been in a junk yard or used for parts. Everyone I've talked to loves their Expedition. I'm thinking about getting a Expedition in the fall...

To the original poster You should have gotten hold of the lemon law.

Did you get the free CarFax from the dealer you bought the Expedition from or were you not willing to spend the extra $300 a good dealer would spend to have his cars run through his shop. Or did you buy it from a honest mom and pop outfit? You get what you pay for.

I would also bet it has been wrecked on the front passenger side. Good luck next time.
