1999 Ford Explorer sport review from North America
"I like my explorer part 2"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This is my 2nd half of my review, because I had to check old records to find all the stuff I had to fix, so here goes.
The steering column smoked randomly and the turn signal light stayed on. To fix $600 turn signal switch assy.
Both front hub bearings $175 each. i drove through about 3 ft of water, (my fault).
Brakes, Calipers, Rotors, Hoses.
Both seat levers.
Thermostat.
The belt tensioner snapped off while I was going about 65 mph..whee.
Battery after battery because the
door ajar switch in both doors, light on dash kept staying on along with interior and mirror lights.
Wire harness rattles nder the dash, so annoying.
Both rear and front shocks replaced and both sway bar links. Fixed by putting a 4.5 inch lift on it cost about $900.
Exhaust hangars broke multiple times,i fixed it by putting an aftermarket dual exhaust on it.
Door hinges on drivers side just started to squeak and drop a litle bit when I opened the door.
My Cd player/radio doesn't play cd's when its cold and says CD error and tries to eject when theres no cd in it.
The center console rattles a lot no matter how tight you tighten the thing.
The engine makes a rattling sound like marbles or something. Noone knows what causes it.
The engine loses a lot of power when the heater is on full blast and your at a stop light. It's funny watching the battery gauge go up and down as it almost stalls.
The Gear shift indicator has broken many times. so 2nd gear on the dash is really drive gear.
The truck has just started acting up again, at any random time driving down the highway, fast or slow.
It seems to just stall and catch itself, like I said in my first review, there is no check engine light on, but its probably gonna cost me.
General comments?
I hope that this truck lasts me longer than my Hyundai I parked it in the back of a jeep at 70 mph.
I still own my explorer and don't have any plans on getting rid of it any time soon.
It's lifted and loud and I can go anywhere I want, pretty much. As long as nothing breaks.
I'm on the fence about if I'd ever buy another one again.
