1999 Ford Explorer Limited review from North America
"Good reliable SUV - buy used avoid depreciation hit $!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not much actually, unless you consider brakes/shocks and tires unusual maintenance items.
We have owned a previous Explorer XLT 99' on lease had about 42,000 miles with no problems, so it was a no brainer when we looked at SUV's two years later & found a 99 Limited for $6K 5 yrs old. Unfortunately terrible resale value as with most American cars/trucks. (HINT buy used!)
Leather seats with heat are grear!
Some electrical issues fuses blowing out - door locks dealer can't locate problem.
Horn also at times, otherwise than these electrical issues, a good vehicle.
General comments?
As seen here, maybe we got lucky (2x?) the Limited was a maintained service fleet vehicle, so some of the people here (not all) should not ignore maintenance items when needed. I.E. don't let things go!
Good handling, decent ride, comfortable with leather seats, economy OK about 18 MPG mixed city/highway.
I perform spark plug changes, air filter, fuses etc. normal maintenance items. No rust issues, bad rear wiper location, back door takes a little effort to shut, BUT easy in/out, very good cargo space!
