"The luxury vehicle of SUVs"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The transmission went, but it was my fault.

Noisy lifters when it is under load.

General comments?

I love my Explorer.

The interior is comfortable and roomy for my family of four plus luggage and other needed things.

Vehicle goes everyday back and forth to work without a hitch.

I was curious about how this owner thinks the tranny going out was his fault? Did they by any chance have an accident? My dad has recently had a rearend accident, he backed into a pickup, only minor damage, none to the pickup, yet his automatic tranny suffered the loss of OD and 1st gear, he does have second and reverse. Is there any simularity?

We bought an used 4x4 1991 ford explorer automatic and have had it for 9 months, we had a problem with it slipping into 4x4 and wouldn't come out for awhile. Just lately we were driving home and there was a problem it wouldn't shift it would just stay in the same gear. Has anyone else had any problems with theirs?

I just purchased a used 1991 Ford Explorer XLT. Had a tune up and brake cable replaced. Some brake work. My question is about gas millage. I am only getting 10 mpg. Most reviews and specs I see say 15 in city 20 highway. Any ideas what causes such a low MPG?? What are you getting? Any thoughts on the subject appreciated

Ann.
