1997 Ford Explorer XLT review from North America
"Great Ride,Comfortable, and luxurious depending on the model"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Wanted to buy a new vehicle. The Malibu ran great, just time for a change.
I usually like older cars, they last longer, and are generally better built. When I purchased the Explorer I was not to sure about the "plastic engine parts" of a new car. I have since been pleasantly surprised.
General comments?
Generally a very good car overall. While the 4.0 V-6 can be somewhat of a gas hog at times (depending on City or Highway) I would not turn my nose up at the fact it is one of the more comfortable SUV's on the market.
I have a model that has most of the "toys" 6 disk CD Changer,Cassette, rear passenger climate controll and radio controlls, the 40/60 folding rear seat, the extra power outlet, everything except the sunroof. Like most of Ford's trendsetters Ford goes for comfort, luxury, and safety. While most of the competition goes for size.( But Ford has also taken care of the BIG suv enthusiast by having a larger suv selection in the form of Expedition, and Excursion.) Great Ride.
