1996 Ford Explorer review from UK and Ireland
"A bargain powerful workhorse"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
There was a fault with the engine management system, but the dealer I bought it from (Non Ford) has replaced all four O2 sensors, and the MAF sensor, free of charge and now the fault is cured.
General comments?
I bought the car as a replacement for my Volvo to tow a caravan. It is seriously powerful when towing, and sometimes you have to remind yourself that there is a caravan on the back.
I have had the car converted to LPG, which is half the price of petrol in the UK, and have been very impressed with the resultant drop in running costs. I should get my money back on the conversion within 12 months.
I am not happy with the driving lights on the spoiler, as they do not have an independent switch.
When driving slowly around car parks and the like, there are a lot of transmission thuds, which alarms my wife, but I have told her that this always happens on this type of car!!
