"Overall OK, put with a few too many little glitches"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Whining sound from wheels when new--fixed twice by deal, still happens intermittently.

Power antennae stopped working around 60,000 miles (unless I press down on it right after turning off the power)

Fan rotor blade went bad --

air conditioning stopped working--$500.00.

Air conditioning system worked well, but display slowly went dark over 3 or 4 years, so now you can't see the temperature which makes it hard to control/set properly.

Radio display abruptly went dark (at 70,000) and never came back, although everything still works.

Rear latch has always stuck after opening.

Center console lid cracked, which I replaced for $118.

Last week, 4/13/04, rpm suddenly dropped to 1000 while going 60. put it in neutral, revved engine and put it back in D. Took back off, but continued to act like it had lost 30-40% of HP. Seems better for now--waiting for the other shoe to drop.

General comments?

Although there are a few issues, primarily cosmetic to some degree so far, I can only assume that there are things going on I can't see, which the recent HP issue may portend.

It's a great looking and comfortable vehicle (I'm 6'6") that I plan to drive to 100k if it'll last.

The primary thing that would really keep me from driving another Ford (this is my 3rd, 2nd new) is that Colorado Ford dealers seem to have the worst service departments imaginable.

My display dims intermitently blacks out and sometimes returns -I have only 50K on this machine. everything works -expect the power antennae - only the last segment go up +down. 5.0 engine, all else OK, but the odd whining happens after car is driven a few miles - what is that?

Probably a bad wheel cylinder.

I bought my explorer used last year. Over this past year I have noticed a lot of things wrong with it. The console is cracked, the power antenna occasionally works, I can see my stereo display about once a month, one of my front tires makes a whining sound, my rear wiper doesn't work, the paint has started to chip, and I lose horsepower at times. Pretty much what everyone else is going through with theirs, which makes me feel a little better. But I have put a lot of miles on it, and it's still running good. So, I guess I can't complain too much.
