What things have gone wrong with the car?
.Transmission wouldn't up-shift after 250,00km. replaced with rebuilt unit, no problems after that.
.Rear wiper never worked since day one, dealer could not repair.
.engine always had ticking noise up hills or under heavy load.
General comments?
Very reliable vehicle. This truck went for 11 years all the way to 350,000km without failure. The transmission was the only non-original part on the vehicle.
We never did a tune up and it still ran strong and always sounded awesome.
Decent power around town, but not adequate for freeway passing. This vehicle is too heavy and the automatic transmission robs it of power. The engine also had no top end so it wouldn't pull hard at high rpm. Great low end torque.
Not fuel efficient, but it was reliable. It never once left us stranded and had no rust. All power accessories, a/c and cruise control worked fine till the end.
Good off road capability, but it has poor ground clearance.
Comfortable truck, feels safe and smooth on the road, just keep that engine tuned and change the transmission fluid.
I highly recommend a manual transmission and transfer case. Also buy a 2 wheel drive if you are not serious about off road. Buying a 2 door sport model may also help on performance and fuel mileage, they also look better.
