1978 Ford F150 Custom Delux review from North America

"My Ford is maybe not the king, but surely MY prince of previous trucks!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The only problems I've ever had with this truck include seat deterioration, paint fade, normal wear.

The bed constantly needs repair to outer panels, but the floor is still good.

The taillights don't work correctly. This is due to someone miswiring trailer towing system improperly.

The rear fuel tank sprung a leak around 700,000 miles.

Around 800,000 miles, the interior lights start blowing fuses due to old wiring.

General comments?

1) This is truly "Built ford tough". It has been the second longest lasting vehicle I ever owned, and trust me, I'M hard on trucks. It has had no major engine work, or transmission work. I've yet to find a truck to rival its duty.

I'm looking at a Toyota Tundra, but I'm not sure how long it will last. I'm constantly searching for the best built trucks on the road. Chevy, Jeep, Dodge, Nissan, no matter. If it's tough, I want it, and have had it.

Chevys, cam blowing 350 got better fuel mileage, but needed three cams before finally throwing a rod at only 170,000 m.

2) After test driving a Tundra, I'm impressed with the ride and features. However, I need statistical answers on longevity. Not some yo yo's talking crap about their own trucks because they had bad luck with one different model. Every make has bad ones in every model. It's up to the honest guys to chat, all bull aside, and determine the toughest longest lasting trucks out there.

3) My current Ford, tows anything, anywhere, with no trouble, the rear ford posi, gets it through nearly any mudhole, loaded or not, and it's heavy enough to grip the worst snowpacked and drifted roads. This I will not compromise. Though the fuel mileage sucks!
