New transmission, new ball joints, just basic repairs. I replaced everything that went wrong.
Nothing major like the engine, it has stayed tough, but I made a lot of modifications to the engine. Still running strong!!
I made such modifications like lowering it, new custom paint job, shaved tailights, fatty tires, rims, custom interior, custom exhaust, performance ignition, performance filtercharger, bushwacker fender flares and roll pan.
Future plans are a tonneau cover and superchip.
No Chevy truck has ever beat me and never will. This truck takes on 5.0 GT HO Mustangs. Very fast truck. No plans on selling it either...
Cool! Fast trucks rock.. And hardly anyone LOWERS F150's so it's pretty original.. I have a '97 F150 XLT RWD that LOOKS like it has been lowered but is stock that way.. It corners very well, Very fun to drive. But if you see it in the mud, it's stuck.
Ya I know, that is why I made it custom, cause I have never seen very many custom f150's that look as nice as mine. I just love kicking the crap out of chevy's in races, like the look on their face when I beat then... FORD FOREVER...
I had a 1990 Ford XLT with a 5.0L in it. It was one of the fastest 5.0L in town. I recently bought a 1998 Chevy Z71. Let me tell you something. You guys are all in denial. There is no way you beat a Chevy in a race. At least the ones with a 5.7L under the hood. I used to say that my Ford was faster than a Chevy until I bought a Chevy. I felt like a fool. GM trucks have always been known for having more power and being faster than the competition. Ha ha ha.
Just so I understand this part - in the "what has gone wrong" section, you write that the transmission has been replaced, and then say just basic repairs.
Is a transmission considered "just basic repairs"?
I agree with the person who just bought the z71. I used to own a 93 f150 with th 4.9l 6 and I thought it was fast, but I just bought a 99 gmc 1500 with the vortec 4.8 (270hp) and the old ford wouldn't even touch it!!!
Well you might have an advantage over the old throttle body trucks, but hell theres no way yours can hang with the 96 and later vortecs. even a 305 is more than enough to wax your truck. but other than that ford trucks are pretty good, not as good as chevys in my opinion (don't like the ford 302 in a truck, much rather have a 305). ford is usually 2nd in performance in pickup trucks I am afraid.
I don't know about the whole beating mustangs thing unless you have a lot more done than just ignition and an air filter
I know because I have owned two 5.0 mustangs and 2 5.0 trucks I will definatly back you on the beating chevys part my 89F1504x4 outran every chevy it encountered I am currently installing a 5.0HO with 10to1 forged pistons gt40 heads and intake 24lb injectors 70mm throddle body and 75mm mass air, but I am having a lot of trouble figuring out how to wire the mustang harness to the truck when its done I plan on taking out a lot of camaros.
I have a 1989 F150 XLT Lariat with a 5.0 and also a '98 Z71. I sell new Fords so I'm not biased to chevy or anything, but Fords are built more for torque and pulling numbers not speed. I'm sorry, but the Fords will get their butts handed to them every time. Look in any magazine and compare a new 5.4L ford to a 5.3L chevy truck, not even close. And this whole beating Camaros thing, I hope they are V6s cause you don't have a prayer with a V8 one. Just being honest. I also have a 68 Camaro SS I race so after I park my Ford truck that pulled the trailer there, we can line up.
Hey whats going on??? well I heard what you have done to your F150. and I myself just bought a 90 F150, that has 50,000 original miles on it. I'm looking to pretty much make it a big ass truck. but have a few problems with the engine, has a rough idle and stutters while I drive right when I get bout to 35MPH. I'm alright with engines, but this one has me stumped. I've tried a tune up, drive shaft, thought it might of been tires, no luck there. burns a little oil, the one head gasket is fried. so I gotta replae that. was wondering what else you have done to engine of truck. would like to get some more ideas. well get back and ill be sure to check this out. or gimme a email at speedster7117@hotmail.com. thanks a lot. or any one else reading this has any info, just get to me thanks a lot.
Fried head gasket - 50,000 original miles? Honey that's probably 250,000 original miles, the 100,000 numbers don't show up on the little dial.
1990 xlt lariat, 5.0, been jumping the solanoid to start,
, missing, no power, running barely, changed wires, plugs,
cap, rotor. ignition works without key, won't cut off, been
switching to empty front tank to kill motor. throttle body,
dirty, a little blow by in the air filter. no knocking, 350,000 on bottom end,50,000 on top, did heads, headers.
I Have A 1990 F-150 5.0 V-8 And It Is Completely Stock And Runs a 16.7 On A Quarter Mile. So Anyone Doesn't Think a Ford will Outrun A Chevy Come down To Georgia And I'll Prove You Wrong.
Also My Truck Has 478,000 Miles With No Engine Work!!!
I Know No One With A Chevy who Can Say That.
The Only Repairs Are Like those Previously Stated Only Starter, Alternator, Transmission, And All That Is My Fault Pretty Much.
That Is Just My 10 Cents.
To those who race trucks:
How stupid are you? Trucks are utility machines and not meant to be raced. If you wanna race go watch Nascar or better yet, go to your local go cart track.
@person who talked about beating the 4.9 six with the vortec. No way! Really? Are you stupid too? The Vortec is made for performance and the inline six is for a more economical engine with good torque. Then if I remember correctly, someone said they beat a 5.0 ford with a 5.7 chevy, jeez, no wonder, you have a bigger engine...
This ford and chevy rivalry will never end, and it makes me laugh. Buy what you want for transportation and if you want to drag me or race me, I'll see you at the track.
That guy sounds really intelligent. He has to call everybody stupid to make himself feel better. Probably drives a dodge. And for that other guy, there's no way your stock 5.0 Ford runs 16.7 in the quarter. What do you think we are? Fools? Maybe 16.7 minutes.
For anyone that thinks a Ford can outrun a Chevy you've obviously never driven a Chev. Chev engines have way more power than any Ford. My 88 Chev will stomp any Ford truck no problem.
