General comments?
I bought this truck used for $3000 back in 97. I had it no more than a half-hour when the throttle stuck open. Took it back to previous owner, and he put a spring on it to keep it from sticking. I didn't know it then, but it had already been broken, the previous owner just fixed it the same way. This truck had a 3 spd automatic, with an economy axle, the ratio was something like 2.37, an economy unit. I got something around 22mpg on the highway with it, and I drove about 112kph all the time. Due to the bad throttle body, the gas pedal never opened fully, limiting top speed and acceleration, still, top speed was around 170kph, with the bad throttle body. It had a cheap suspension) i. e economy) which, when a heavy load was put in it, caused the back end to sag quite a bit. The engine ran a little hot sometimes with a big load and going uphill, which was attributed the economy axle. The throttle body broke on me one day in my driveway, and I had a hard time finding a used one. I called the local ford dealership, and they quoted 480 bucks for one! I then called just about every junk yard in the province, I was just about to give up and call the dealer back when I found a used one, thank heavens. Changing it was easy, about 30 minutes and a few small bolts. I believe the exhaust valve on no.1 cylinder was burnt, which caused the engine to idle rough, but it cleared up when the RPM's increased. On a few occasions, the transmission acted up, causing it to start off in second, or one time, in third. It only did this a few times, and it never happened again. The interior was basic, which caused it to echo road noises, but it was quite acceptable, other cars being louder on the inside than this. I sold it about a year and a half after I bought it, I was laid off from my job and needed money, boy do I regret it. I totally loved my truck. I miss her badly.
