1989 Ford F150 XLT 4x4 LWB review from North America
"Would never buy any truck not made by Ford"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought this truck the:
Driver side of seat had a tear.
Driver window motor/track is bad.
Passenger window motor is slow.
AC not cold.
When I bought I had this work done:
Completelety check out mechanically.
New tires.
New serpentine belt.
Since I bought it I:
Filled the AC and it still works!
Replaced the throttle sensor (Firestone)
Replaced the radiator (Firestone)
Replaced the thermostat (Firestone)
Replaced rear brake pads on (simple!)
Removed the muffler, it rusted at the pipe seam and was blocking the pipe. Have not put a new muffler on because it's still fairly quiet with the catalytic converter and has more power.
I don't take it off road and it was apparently used in light construction work and was treated pretty good by previous owners despite suspicions of a past minor accident.
It's my daily driver (60 miles/day to work) but we have 5 acres and occasionally our tractor gets stuck or I need to pull something out of the ground like a tree root or fence posts.
General comments?
I LOVE this truck. It was the top of the line in it's day and is still a great truck. It's my second Ford truck, the first was a base model 1981 many years ago.
My truck came from the factory with bedliner and matching bed cover and still has them. Paint and chrome is still great, but pinstripe needs replaced and chrome trim around back window.
I am SO glad I found this truck. I looked for 2 months due to my budget. I finally called some dealerships and someone had just traded it in on a new truck. It was scheduled to go to auction in a few days and was still on the back lot and not cleaned up. I got it for only $3,000 and never expected a fully loaded 4x4 in great shape for that amount of money. You'd never find a truck like this in the paper for under $5k, I know cause I looked for a long time.
