When I bought this truck the:
Driver side of seat had a tear.
Driver window motor/track is bad.
Passenger window motor is slow.
AC not cold.
When I bought I had this work done:
Completelety check out mechanically.
New tires.
New serpentine belt.
Since I bought it I:
Filled the AC and it still works!
Replaced the throttle sensor (Firestone)
Replaced the radiator (Firestone)
Replaced the thermostat (Firestone)
Replaced rear brake pads on (simple!)
Removed the muffler, it rusted at the pipe seam and was blocking the pipe. Have not put a new muffler on because it's still fairly quiet with the catalytic converter and has more power.
I don't take it off road and it was apparently used in light construction work and was treated pretty good by previous owners despite suspicions of a past minor accident.
It's my daily driver (60 miles/day to work) but we have 5 acres and occasionally our tractor gets stuck or I need to pull something out of the ground like a tree root or fence posts.
I LOVE this truck. It was the top of the line in it's day and is still a great truck. It's my second Ford truck, the first was a base model 1981 many years ago.
My truck came from the factory with bedliner and matching bed cover and still has them. Paint and chrome is still great, but pinstripe needs replaced and chrome trim around back window.
I am SO glad I found this truck. I looked for 2 months due to my budget. I finally called some dealerships and someone had just traded it in on a new truck. It was scheduled to go to auction in a few days and was still on the back lot and not cleaned up. I got it for only $3,000 and never expected a fully loaded 4x4 in great shape for that amount of money. You'd never find a truck like this in the paper for under $5k, I know cause I looked for a long time.
You got yours for 3k. I got my 1989 XLT Lariat Ford F150 Crew Cab Long Bed V8 5.0 clean title 4x4, with:
No dents, no cracks in dash, perfects seats, it's in grand condition and only 80k on a new motor and transmission 50k, new CD player, 2 10 inch subs in the back, and Panasonic speakers in front doors, brand new all terrain tires and new wheels, and chrome.
All for 1K.
Pretty sweet huh? I knew I couldn't pass this up. It was in a ad in the paper, and a old guy was looking to sell it cheap, so I gave him 1000 cash. At home I installed glasspacks, K&N filter; it's not a cold air intake kit; I'm a redneck not a ricer, but sounds like you got a good deal on your truck.
Trust me, I hate dealerships; they never let you talk down the price, but it's worth it. GREAT truck.
I'm trying to talk dad into buy a '89 f150 harley edition...4 speed manual, 4x4, off road tires, its got around 140000 miles on it, with a new engine and trany with 50000ish...some dings and dents and scratches, tool box and diamond plate around the bed... whats your thoughts?
I bought my 1989 lariat new in November 1988. This truck is still going strong after 372000 miles. Have only had to replace your normal stuff like brakes, starter, plugs, wires thermostat and the like. No internal problems what so ever. Same 5.0 gas engine and aod transmission. Wish they made them so they would never rust. Love the body style too. It looks the way a truck should look. I'm going to keep it till it falls apart. Would love to restore it someday. One more thing, I started using Slick-50 at fifty thousand miles and every fifty thousand miles since and think that is reason for it's longevity. I use Slick-50 in all my vehicles, I think it does what it says it will do.
You paid a grand for that? In my possession as of today is a 1989 Ford F-150. Minor Rust, runs great, 11,000 miles, new cooper tires, new belts, brakes, and 1/2 ton leaf spring, for 200$
