1998 Ford F150 XL review from North America

Tie Rod end broke at 90,000 Km

Wheel bearing gone at 90,000 Km

Wheel Bearing gone at 115,000 Km

New brakes at 70,000 Km

Both torsion bars snapped at 10,000 Km

Whole truck has micro cracks in paintjob which are now starting to blister and rust

Windshield fluid dispenser has no power

Seat belts take too long to retract

Towpackage wiring harness does not work

Ignition module failure at 115,000 Km.

Most of the problem I have mentioned (there are probably a number that I have forgotten about as well) occured after the warranty had run out and I fully understand that. However There are some items such as the paint job problem which I brought to the attention of the dealership well over a year ago and had obviously been present while the truck was still under warranty. I have recieved no feedback from "Ford" except that they would take my comments and see if anyone else has had that problem. To date I have not heard from Ford and I am well aware of at least one local person who will be recieving a complete paint job for the same problem (much less so I must add) because his truck is still under warranty.

Another problem that doesn't seem to be too important to the Ford people is that I had a wheel bearing changed 13 months ago and it has failed again. I was told by a dealer representative that because the 1 year warranty on the part was up that I was out of luck. My argument is that there must be a problem with the part installed or the method of installation. Once again I was stonewalled by the dealer rep.

I will never purchase another Ford product and stongly advise anyone who is thinking of purchasing a new vehicle to check out not just the integrity of the product, but also the integrity of the company and the dealer.
