Rear main seal is leaking and been fixed repeatedly the crank has play in it the bearings are worn so the engine needs to be rebuilt, This truck has almost every aftermarket item and then some to make it faster. Problem is it's a 1990 2 wheel drive AOD automatic and has speed density limiting the power capility. The input shaft needs to be upgraded when I plan to exceed 350 hp also the fuel lines need to be upgraded to exceed 350 hp. Hopefully ford will start making the 2004 lighting motors factory in all there series trucks, but hey that would be to easy.
Love the truck and now I am dumping more money into it, to build the 5.0 to get around 325 + hp and still use the speed density.
I know the road your taking and it won't work. My dad has a 94' Lightning he rebuilt his 351w and couldn't nobody get it straight. Superchips sent him to Birmingham AL, thinking that they could get it right on their computer, didn't happen. Then they said well go to Orlando FL (9hours away from Mobile). They put it on a dyno to try to get the air/fuel ratio right, but didn't happen, better, but it still wouldn't idle. Then the head mechanic looks at it and said leave it here for a week and we will see what we can do. One week later he says "well I got the transmission to shift harder, but still nothing on the air /fuel mix. Finally he ordered a mass air conversion kit and a 408 stroker kit. It should not be hard to find 325hp, but if your looking for some real power DSS (Muscle Mustang and Fast Ford magazine or www.dssracing.com) has a 347 stroker kit for about $1300. But back to my main point either go with a mass air kit or a carb because with speed density you will get no where, but anger management. Please let me know if you read this and if it helps.
Hi
I've built a 408 for a 1994 van.it made aton of torque, and good mileage.
