1997 Ford F150 from North America - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

On May 11, 2003 I lost steering control of my Ford F150, and was involved in an accident.

The steering shaft had become seperated from the Yoke, due to incorrect installation at the Ford Factory.

General comments?

I had found out that the National Transportation board has been having ongoing investigatins with Ford regarding this exact lOSS OF CONTROL issue. People have been reporting these injury accidents to Ford and the NTSB, for along time, according to the NTSB Records these accidents go as far back as 1997 itself.

And I guess FORD just chose to ignore these accidents that were happening.

Long story short {I hope!}

After contacting my insurance company, On MAY 12, 2003, one day after the accident had occured, I spoke with Ford Motor Companies "CUSTOMER CARE DEPT" redgarding the accident and the loss of steering control. And that I knew what the problem was as we had to temorarly repair the truck enough to get it home.

I gave Ford's "CUSTOMER CARE DEPT" all of the information, on the accident and how and why it happened. And I advised them of the other accidents I had found at the NTSB. FORD'S response was that no recalls had come up under my VIN A# therefore it was not thier concern.

They did advise me to take it to a Ford dealer for estimates and repairs I that I should take this issue up with my insurance company. I have been in contact with my insurance since the day it the day this Accident occured.

There is no doubt however who is responsible for the accident and repair of my vehicle, because on MAY 27, 2003 FORD along with the NSTB issued a recall on Ford F150's for this reason. this recall was just issued on MAY 27, 2003 2 weeks after my accident occured.

After confronting FORD "CUSTOMER CARE" on several different calls, and with all the articles With copies of this recall posted all over the news/media, FORD IS STILL REFUSING TO REPAIR MY TRUCK, NOR WILL THEY LOAN ME RENTAL CAR SO THAT I MAY GET TO WORK!

IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WITH SOME POSSIBLE ADVICE REGARDING THIS PROBLEM I AM HAVING?? (I KNOW THAT I PROBLABLY NEED AN ATTORNEY!!!)

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Donna.

Hi Donna

How many kilometers did you have on your truck when the accident occurred? I just backed out of my driveway and something in the front gave away.. thank goodness I wasn't in traffic like you and I just drove it back into the driveway.

Have you had any luck with Ford yet? I inquired about the recall and they said that mine was not one of them hmmmmmmmm thinking maybe it is after all.. Anne Marie.

Reply to Ann Marie:

Thank you for responding to the issue with Ford and the F-150's problem with the steering shaft.

Answer to your question, my truck has about 120K on it.

I am glad to hear you were not in traffic. Well my Truck has been repaired, but my insurance company had to cover it. while I am still out $500.00 for deductable, and 1700.00 in car rental charges, I have been cleared of any fault in this accident, and my insurance company is suing Ford for the repairs, deductable, and car rental fees along with what they had to put out.

Have not heard from FORD, and am not surprised! but instead of just fixing my vehicle and giving me something to drive to work, they would rather pay thier attorneys, and in the end pay my insurance companies charges, thier attorney fees, and finally hopefully mine. (go figure)

Thanks for asking.

Donna.
