My engine blew at 91,000 miles. Tie rod end broke at 77,000 miles. Paint has started to crack on roof. This truck was not worth what I paid for it. Ford refuses to do anything about the blown engine, even tho I still owe money on this truck. I've always thought Fords were great, till I bought this piece of junk. Never again, will I buy a ford.
This truck is junk.
The 4.2L v6 was a new motor 1997. It has known lower intake and front cover gasket defects in 1997 and early 1998 trucks. This can cause coolant to leak into either the intake or crank case of the motor. This problem has suposidly been fixed in newer motors.

I bought my F150 new in 98 and still have it.. today it has 175,000 miles and I still drive it daily. It is the stiffest riding vehicle I have ever been in. the front end is brutally rigid, tie rod ends snap like pretzel rods.. I have been through four lower outside ends to date and have just recently started hearing popping again up front.. speculation is it is the same issue so I will replace them again before I get killed driving it, which also requires realigning the front end.. another added costs. Granted this truck was only around $16000.00 new, but I would expect it to come standard with a front suspension.
