2002 Ford F150 SVT Lightning review from North America
"SVT Lightning is a rare beauty"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
During the 2 months of ownership for this vehicle a few things have gone wrong, such as;
The dealer whom safetied the truck forgot to tighten both caliper bolts for the driver side rear brakes. Luckily it was caught when I took it to a friends garage to further inspect the under body.
While leaning over to get my wallet with my seat belt on I broke the tensioner on the buckle and the sensor kept blaring away. Easy fix, bought the part and did it on a Sat. morning. Funny that the dealer suggested that their mechanics do it for an hourly charge of $95.00 an hour, plus parts.
The peanut bulbs required to luminate the climate control panel both burnt out and the dealer just laughed and said bring it in for service and buy the bulbs. LOL, did it myself.
Rusting bubbles are starting to form on the passenger side door, not very attractive, but will paint after the winter season is over.
Dealer installed the fog light bulbs incorrectly, luckily the socket clip was fixable.
Contacted the previous owner for my truck and he mentioned that the infamous spark plug blow-out for the Triton engines occurred at around 51,000 KM (30,600 Miles) Very awkward for a practically new truck.
General comments?
I researched and test driven this truck and many other cars for a period of 6 months. However, if I had known that there is a spark-plug blow out issue for this truck I simply would not buy it. But that's a little too late, so my solution is during each 20,000KM interval I have to check each plug and make sure they aren't loose or seized.
The drive in this thing is like no other. During wet or snowy conditions obviously you gotta be light on the throttle or else your fish tailing.
I know when driving this truck in particular, people are looking and listening to the exhaust grumble away. The front fascia is clean and tough looking.
The interior gauges are sweet to look at during the night drives.
My only concerns are gas and tires for this truck, gas is an obvious factor, stay light on the throttle and stay off of boost and your doing 800KM (480 Miles) a tank, personally experienced this. Tires aren't cheap, but have been lucky to get the dealer to put a new set on for me before I bought it.
One might think that I race this beast at every red light and for a while I loved how fast it is, but there are really some stupid people on the road in there civic, accord or neons etc.. that want to run. Sorry to say I don't race it or drive really hard due to the fact that there's families sharing the roads and well in Ontario there's a rule that if one get's into an accident while racing both drivers are charged heavily.
