This is a truck.
It used to be a Dump Truck, but somebody put a pickup bed on it. Very rarely do you see a 70's Dually, let alone one with a bed.
Tons of Power, geared at 4.30 in the rear end, and with a Granny 4sp, it fears no load. Kinda slow top end, accleration is OK for what it is, its far from mind blowing, but its not exactly slow either. Tops at 67 MPH.
7MPG is about all you can get, that's with a Edelbrock 4BBL and Headers.
10 leaf springs and 2 overloads give it a ride that's simliar to that of a battle tank, however, the truck is very intimidating to smaller vehicles on the road. 30 large fence posts in the bed and the truck hardly squats.
The 4sp is your typical Granny Low Truck box. Kinda sloppy, and can't be shifted fast, but you can always rely on it.
Handling...well...it's a late 70's one ton... what do you expect?
Overall, a great truck.
I would really like to see some pics of this beast, I just recently purchased a 1978 F350 dually with an 8'X 12' flatbed, I would like to find an old camper special bed to replace the flatbed with. I have just over 6' from the middle of the axle to the rear of the cab, can I get a pick up bed to fit there?? do you have any pics of yours??
I got a couple of pics of mine as a matter of fact. Email me crazycountryboy_77351@hotmail.com.
I have a F350 Custom; what a monster. This juggernaut can do anything.
I'm from Englewood Colorado, and I have chased people with their wimpy 427 Corvettes (nahh just kidding about the 427), but it's fun. They pull over and I stop (to chat) with them, and they asked me, "What do you have under the hood?" I showed them; a 460 super charger, and they were astounded that a huge 1 ton truck could do anything like that.
I once chased a Lambo; we all know they are uncatchable, but I gave it a try. Ha ha.
It took me a year to find this truck, but I finally have it. It's so simple to fix and maintain compared to the new ones (what a waste).
My truck is a 4x4 thank goodness. What I'm going to do is add two more inches (only) with the tires. Man, it's going to eat the snow like nothing. Last year, we had two blizzards here in Colorado; what made me want this truck so bad is when I saw this guy and his 76 F250 plow right into a five foot drift; snow exploded all over the place. I said to myself he just got himself stuck; nope, as all the snow cleared, he kept on going. That was when I knew I had to have a truck.
Not to complain about my Mom's '88 Jeep Pioneer, but it's a light city truck, but still a darn good 4x4.
I know that my F350 will eat a mountain (LOL). But to those that have their old F350, F250, F150, F100; treat those trucks with great respect because they're best American trucks ever made; the classics rule!!!
