1987 Ford Falcon XF GL review from Australia and New Zealand
"Great Relaxed Distance Cruiser"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Leaking from somewhere around the windscreen. Lucky it hasn't rained in the past 6 months.
Odometer stopped on a long distance trip.
Started to rust in the drivers side gaurd.
Carby was gunked up badly.
Gearbox Synchros committed suicide.
Air conditioning out of gas.
Face vents on the dash don't work, nor does the cool air setting.
General comments?
Styling not that bad, once you get used to it.
Great cruiser with heaps of torque. Not many four-pots pass me when its up and going.
Doesn't sound bad when your up it or down changing, thanks to the sports exhaust.
Very floaty suspension, little bit intimidating into faster corners.
Chews fuel like theres no tomorrow, only 450 off a 68L tank when taking it easy!Though this does improve markedly out on the high way.
Great for overtaking, pulls 95 in second gear thanks to the long diff.
Mechanically this car is sound as a rock, it can't be broken with a big stick however niggly little things have gone wrong.
Could be quite formidable with very few modifications: Extractors, Decent Manifold, 2 Barrel Holley, Lowered and Sticky 16" Tires.
