1992 Ford Fiesta Base review from UK and Ireland
"Basic, but brilliant!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I owned this car for 6 months and during this time absolutely nothing went wrong.
The only work carried out on the car was to have a couple of small areas of rust on the sills and front and rear valance treated and the sills and valances resprayed with colour matched stone-chip paint. This was done through personal choice not necessity!
General comments?
This was an amazing little car, absolutely basic with no creature comforts, but extremely reliable and very cheap to run.
Despite being almost nine years old the car was in almost perfect condition with a spotless interior and a paint job that would put some new cars to shame. All thanks to the previous owners regular care and maintenance of the vehicle.
As could be expected from a 1.1 litre engine with a 4 speed gearbox 0-60 wasn't something to write home about. Once up to speed overtaking was not a problem, the car could pick up speed from about 60 to 80 with no problem at all.
Handling was OK, not as good as a newer fiesta, but it was still fun to drive for the simple reason it felt a bit more like a go-cart than newer cars!
All in all this was an excellent little car proving that regular care and attention saves money in the long run. I upgraded to a newer Fiesta 1.25 Zetec LX after 6 months and sold this car on for a VERY good price. A credit to Ford! :)
