1990 Ford Fiesta Freedom (L) review from UK and Ireland

What things went right?!?

I had trouble with everything:

Fuel problems (dodgy filter, pump, guage (this lied and would frequently tell me I had 0.5 tank only to break down, 10 minutes later in the middle of nowhere (Yorkshire Moors, to be exact.) and basically bad news)

It would drink oil like it was water (leaks were rare, it just developed a taste for it, I suppose)

The radiator blew up (unexplained) on the A4 (Paris to Reims) and left me with a huge repair bill from Ford, another from my breakdown service, another from the French tow-truck and a fine for stopping on the 'Autoroute'!

It would not start for love nor money on cold, cool, damp, wet, windy, foggy, icy or snowy mornings!

Was broken into 19 times during the time I owned it. Each time, my insurance premium went higher and higher. (I know this was no fault of the car, but 19 times???)

I needed four new clutches (the cable rubbed somewhere and when moved away from this point, it would just slip back into place within 30 minutes drive!

Cylinder head blew, taking a hole in the bonnet with it (the one powerfull thing about the whole car!)

Dodgy transission.

Dodgy electrics.

It was uncomfortable, small, unreliable and slow.

The interior was one of Ford's tackier jobs... plastic everywhere you look!

0-60 seems like a decade, the feels (and sounds) like you are driving a tractor! And for god's sake, DO NOT TRY TO OVERTAKE ANYTHING!! Not even a bicycle!

This was the worst car I have ever owned (out of 12). It was rusty when I bought it, but oh, how it spread! I would have been happier driving a skip!

The heater was obviously designed for use in only scorchiong hot countries like Egypt or Peru as it blew out a jet of icy cold air for the first 20 minutes of use then a pathetic 'lukewarm' trickle after that!
