This is a brand new Ford Fiesta Zetec Climate 1.4TD and is a company car.
It has started to stall with slight motion in 1st and reverse. This maybe down to me stalling it however the concern is is that it does not start up straight away, and mostly needs constant cranking with acceleration pedal down. However I have driven 2 diesels previously for over a year and a half and can't say I'm a regular staller.
The car is going in the garage this week, fortuantly I don't care for it to much since it's a company car and a poor car at that.
I haven't had the company car, but in all to say its value is just over £11,000 I cannot see the logic of someone spending over £11k of their own money for this car.
In general the car is certainly an improvement over the previous fiesta and certainly much more roomier. Sadly its still very cheap, uncomfortable and tacky as all the previous fiestas and to think from my friends 1996 1.3 petrol (poverty spec) this brand new fiesta is still as poor really.
Of course, why did I choose this car? Well because at 21 (just turned) I can't justify spending near £200 a month a company Ford Focus (company car tax & increase in company car band) so decided to stick with the bottom car. However I would have been more than happy sticking with my big comfortable economic and practical Citroen Xantia 1.9TD.
One thing I'm confused about, I drove a Focus hatchback and Estate (55 plates) with the 1.6TD and they were pretty quick, so why is it a fiesta at about half the size and weight? is so so so slow in a 1.4TD.
Hi the 1.4 TDCi engine only kicks out 67 bhp, but weights 1139 KG. the 1.6 TDCi Focus is only 210 KG heavier, but had 90 or 110 BHP. It produces a lot more torque that the 1.4 TDCi despite only 200 cc more.
The Fiesta is only about 150kg (or two adult passengers) lighter than the 1.6 TDCi Focus and has 42 bhp less. That's why it's slower.
You can't reasonably expect any performance from a 68 bhp diesel hatchback. Wasn't built for it and will never deliver it.
Well the car has grown on me a little, it's still incredibly slow and I'm surprised they have bothered with this 1.4TDCi, which apparently is becoming quite unreliable, and its incredibly noisy. It's a bit of a joke to say this cars over 11K and we're in the year 2006. The Focus 1.6 is certainly more refined and not at all tinny.
It's frustrating how you can pick up a brand new Xsara Picasso for around 9k, and you get a lot more for your money than this Fiesta at 11+k.
I would certainly recommend anyone to purchase the more refined, more practical, more comfortable Focus 1.6TDCi.
The old XUD engines are quieter than this and so much more reliable. I certainly would like to see the Fiesta phased out as it's long past its sell by date, and it should be replaced with something of a similar size, but brand new, it will sell since it's a Ford, and get rid of the tired lunchbox that is the Fiesta.
Come on Ford, where are your fresh ideas, stop recycling the brand.

Update:
The car has gone into the dealer to have the drivers side window rubber replaced as the window started bending outside of the rubber holdings.
The engine sounds very tinny and as if its going to die at any point.
The car now has started juddering here and there, very noticeable when doing motorway cruising.
The oil filler plug, decided to unplug itself and has placed oil all over the engine bay (haven't even lifted the bonnet before to fill the washer fluid) so not sure how that has happened.
There is now a rattle around the ignition (no no the keys) area or the area around the wing mirror remote.
All for a car that has just done over 7,000 miles.
Truly rubbish car!
I just got one, and I got to say, I'm loving it, very sporty looking, all the important bits a nice car should have and it dose turn heads!

I've had the 1.4 diesel climate model for the past seven months and wish that I had broken my leg on the way to buy it.
This car is awful. Noisy, smokey, under powered, I'm still trying to get the main dealers to put it right so I can get rid of it.
If you've never lifted the bonnet, the thing probably needs topping up with oil!
