"Zetec TDCI's rule"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No problems so far!!

General comments?

This has to be the best car in its class by miles, not only is it the best looking, but it also has bags of space and all the extras.

As for performance: may not be as quick as the zetec s petrol of the mark, but that is it, the tdci would leave it standing once on the move and that goes for a lot of the cars in its class, before this I owned a 1998 106 gti 120bhp, but this has a lot more pulling power and I've matched the 125mph I could do in my 106.

Plus I can get on average 55-60 mpg. not many cars do this and still put a smile on your face.

If your thinking of getting a zetec s then go for the TDCI, and try and get the full leather seats as I only paid an extra £500 from a dealer.

'This has to be the best car in its class by miles'.

Errrrr no, that would be the Fabia vrs or the Ibiza PD130 (6 of one, half a dozen other).

Similar price, but way better in almost every aspect, performance wise they're in a different league to your Zetec S.

Fabia vrs has an extra 300cc and also 30 extra bhp, but your car has no chance of pulling away, thers hardly nuthing in it. you cnt judge everything on 0-60 times you know. and come on mine is much better looking than yours or any other hot hatch out there.

At the end of the day mate you gone and bought a SKODA!!!

TDCi's are rubbish engines. You obviously know nothing about cars if you think its better than the superior PD diesel VW engine in the MUCH faster Skoda (through all the gears, trust me, the Fiesta would have NO chance). TDCi engines have very poor injector life and need recalibrating every so often, this is a well known issue, check it out! Also, the dual mass flywheels are prone to failing in Ford junk.

'you cnt judge everything on 0-60 times you know'

Too right you can't. But that is probably the weakest thing performance wise for the vrs.

And about it not pulling away...lol...228lb/ft compared to your poxy 150lb/ft of torque... think again.

Yes, it is a Skoda, which I'm very proud of. Well built, reliable, looks good IMO & surprises many bigger engined cars.

Just face it... YOU BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR!

The zetec s tdci has got 200lb/ft of tourqe not the 150 that you claim it has! one of my friends has got a seat with the 130bhp vw engine and he can't pull away at all, and that's the same engine as the vrs isn't it??? the only way you could get anywhere is after 120mph. as his seat will top out at 135mph and mine will only just reach 125mph. but I still think mine is a better all rounder. roughly how many mpg can you get in a vrs?

Your friend must be driving the Seat like an old woman then, as no ifs or buts, the VRS is much quicker. They will do 60mpg on a run.

200lb/ft of torque, is that what the salesman told you?

I suggest you look in a car mag, at how poor your cars performance is, your in for a shock.

89bhp

151 lb/ft torque

0-60 11.2

Top speed 112mph (125mph, dream on!!)

You can defend your zetec s all you want, but the fact remains you could have got a whole lot more for your money.

A Skoda Fabia VRS would kill your little TDCi Fiesta. 40 BHP more you do the maths. 130 BHP against 90 BHP. yes the Fabia will be a bit heavier, but it has 40 bhp to cope with the extra weight. it is 150 lb ft not 200 lb ft. i'd much rather have a Skoda Fabia 130 BHP TDi rather than a little 1.6 with 90 BHP.

Look pal, at the end of the day, If you stood both cars side by side 85% of people would buy the fiesta, no doubt about it! Maybe your skoda is faster, but if we just concentrated on looks the fiesta would win hands down! If for nothing else it doesn't sport a SKODA BADGE!!

Performance isn't everything mate.

Neither's looks!

Obvious that looks are more important to you, though!

I refer to your original comment-

'This has to be the best car in its class by miles'

I think we've proven you completely wrong. You bought a car for similar money to a vrs (so it is in same class), that doesn't beat it or equal it in any way, shape or form.

Hello.

I own a Fiesta TDCi Zetec S... and eventhough I admit the Skoda is better than the Fiesta in almost everyway; I'm 18 and you have failed to mention the importance of the fact that the Fiesta is insurance group 6 and the skoda is group 9. So that's game set and match for my view of which is the better car.

You probably get a bigger bang for your buck as for £10,718 I got it with Privacy glass, climate control, 1/2 leather, Technology pack, Metallic paint, parking sensors and a silver dash insert!

- but if the question is which is the better car in the performance respect... then obviously the skoda =)

Hmm, I own a remapped tdci had it rolling road tested 121bhp and 180ftlbs a friend owms the 1.9td ibiza FR and I'm afraid its true it pulls away no matter what even after my remapp doesn't fly away, but slowly it goes and I've never had 125mph 120mhp and its in the red with my remapp with video and photographic proof it was on a very long flat level aswell. think the zs out hadles the ibiza though anyway each to there own I love it.

'I'm 18 and you have failed to mention the importance of the fact that the Fiesta is insuranace group 6 and the skoda is group 9.'

And you've failed to mention that the Fabia insurance is group 9E, which is the equivalent to group 8. So there's is very little difference in terms of insurance.

I bought a fiesta zetec s tdci because I like the car and its cheap to run, is that a good enough reason to buy one. I did look at the skoda, but it worked out quite a bit more expensive to own when taking into account the extra fuel, insurance and road tax. Having said that the skoda is faster if that's what you want, but if you want speed why not buy a fiesta and an old school performance hatch with the money you save over the skoda because that's what I'm planning to do.
