C.V.Tranny had to be rebuilt at about 9,000 miles.
Car had constant engine light on.
Would not go anywhere when put into drive.
It is a comfy, nice looking car.
Not sure about the CVT, though.
Did you say 25k? for an SE? In Houston you can get them for 18,998 excluding additional rebate of $1000. 18k for this car is a deal. Sorry about your CVT problem. Sounds like a lemon when considering all the positive responses on it to date. I suggest getting an Accord. But don't be surprised when it feels low and cramped in all aspects in comparison.
I own a problematic Five Hundred too, no CVT rebuild, but the engine knocks, the carpets show wear at an early stage, and just yesterday, the rooftop trim on the passenger side blew off while I was driving at 120 K/h. If Ford came clean for your CTV and rebuilt it at their cost, I wouldn't be too upset, but in my case, they are taking their time to come clean.
I was looking at an AWD Ford Five Hundred the other day and the dealer came up with 31,000 dollars fully loaded. Needless to say that I laughed at him. I went and bought a new Lexus IS 250. I don't get why Ford is trying to charge Acura or Lexus prices when Ford builds some true junk.
There is OBVIOUSLY a problem with the CVT transmission. Just look at all of the 500 reviews and see how many have had transmission failures so early!
I think too many people are biased towards American cars or Fords specifically. They love them and promote them as being good cars, even if the transmission fails and the headgasket blows all before 100k miles.
Ford is notorious for having transmissions with a lifespan of less than 100k miles. Some people may squeak out more mileage out of theirs, but it's not the majority. Not by a long shot! Just do some research and you'll see.
It's funny to me that Ford made the Taurus with a known-to-be failure-prone transmission for 20 years, then replaced it with an all-new car that also has transmission problems, then rename this new car the Taurus!
I bough a 500 AWD in December 2005 and have not looked back.
SEL model with leather seats back up warning device and automatic heat.
The CVT has worked well and I have driven almost 70 thousand miles.
3 trips to Florida and back with a mileage per gallon of over 30.
It seem like Ford never really advertised the value of this automobile.
Bought it when the price you paid was what the employee paid.
This was a good program, and I got 0% for 60 months, and I would do it again if I could.
