2006 Ford Five Hundred SEL review from North America
"Best all-around vehicle I have ever bought"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The dash compartment lid gets a blister when left in the sun without a windshield screen. Ford will replace it with a new solid lid during my next oil change.
General comments?
Very pleased with the interior design. Plenty of room, especially for the back seat.
The dashboard has a nice look, but has some bothersome reflection in the windshield.
Seats remind me of those in a pickup truck- higher seat for more upright posture. Much less tiring during a long trip.
This vehicle seems very nimble, and drives like a smaller vehicle.
The Continental tires are sensitive to air pressure. A couple of pounds can change the handling and ride significantly.
I like the 6-speed transmission with its smooth shifting.
The motor has plenty of power and I have maintained 32 mpg during over a 100 mile long interstate drive at 70 mph. Unless you just like to stomp the gas pedal for a rush, this car does not need a more powerful engine if it means giving up on gas mileage. Maybe Ford could offer an optional engine for that.
The trunk is HUGE!
