We have had numerous recalls on the vehicle. Some of the parts used to "repair" the recalls, have been recalled. At 35k we had to replace our brake pads, and rotors. The repair shop (not Ford) who did this work for us told us he had never seen warping on rotors like ours, and that they would cause our tires to prematurely wear. At 40k we put $500 worth of new tires on the car to replace the bald 60k tires that came with vehicle. At 47k
our electrical locks system went out and the engine would not turn over. Ford put new battery in (after having the car for 3days) and a new fuse for the locks. Four hours later car stalled out and locks are inop. again. I have to wait until Monday morning to take back in to service center.
This number one rated car of the year for 2000 is a lemon. We bought this car putting our trust into Ford. We have been frustrated and disappointed with the car. We don't feel safe in it and it has proved to be undependable. We feel like we are driving a time bomb.
I suppose all manufacturers make mistakes.. or as they say.. make Friday afternoon cars.. but strangely, I have run a company Focus 1.8 turbo diesel Estate (station wagon), on IRISH roads, for 80,000 miles, with a quarter of a ton of merchandise in the back of its enormous load bay, and all without a hitch! Sadly my wife wrecked the car... thank God she was driving the Focus... I now have a Toyota Avensis.. which doesn't come even CLOSE to the Focus for all round reliability, space, comfort or sheer pleasure of driving!I want my Focus back!
The Focus sold in the US and Canada is made in Mexico, while the Focus sold everywhere else is made in Europe. The Euro Focus is a reliable car.
