2000 Ford Focus 3 door hatch back review from North America
"I would never buy a focus again"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Tires blew out 2 miles away from the dealership.
Ignition went totally out at around 17k.
Water pump sucked dry at 33k.
Automatic windows no longer exist, haven't fixed yet. went out at 35k.
Front tires wear very badly.
Exhaust fell off from a little pot whole going roughly 75 mph.
Blown head gaskets at 101k.
General comments?
Only two miles out of the dealership my rear
tires blow out, leaving me stranded, with what I
didn't realize would be my biggest nightmare.
Only 17k on my baby's odometer did the ignition go out, and I mean go out. I wonder if that's a record of least miles with bad ignition. it cost a lot to fix and sometimes still gives me problems.
My water pump went bad at 33k, it let me know by leaking a mile and overheating. that was fixed and it seems to be trouble free as of now.
The windows no longer go down so I leave them be.
My whole exhaust system fell off one day when I was on the free way. I must have been going no more than 75mph.
I got about 8 tickets for no brake lights. some reason the go out everytime I fix them. I thought it was a short, but everything seems to be OK in that department.
Even with a rebuilt transmission and 2 new clutches my car only sometimes shifts into 3rd. I've took it to at least 4 mechanics and no one can pin point it as to why it would do that. also related to shifting problems my car doesn't usally know what reverse is, so some might see me use my foot a lot to back her up. and the shift knob falls off all the time.
3 times around 30-45k my gas pedal stuck on me, but it seems it was when I went over 85mph, so I guess I don't need to test it anymore. it taught me not to speed anymore.
And last, but not least my head gasket blew at 101k.
I recommend to never buy a focus. they cost a lot of money to fix and never stop breaking.
