1996 Ford Galaxy LX review from UK and Ireland
"A practical bus for the active family"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The car has been fairly reliable, but worst aspect has been brakes which seem to need attention in some respect or other at least once a year.
The seat valances do drop off, but replacing the plastics clips helps.
The exhaust downpipe support corroded away and the end came off the cat. An evening with the welder saved about £600 of replacement parts.
Have had the odd water leaks into the footwells.
General comments?
The car has been excellent for the family and returned about 40 mpg reliably.
It's not fast by any description, but the handling is tolerable for a big vehicle.
Invaluable for carting kids, bikes, etc. around the country and on holiday.
The water leaks into the foot wells are due to drain holes blocking. Remove the long panel under the wipers etc. (3 setscrews) and get a length of fairly stiff 1/2 inch plastic tube. You cant see the holes but push the tube into the far left and right corners of the panel that the wiper motor and pollen filter live over. With a bit of waggling you can clean out the holes and should be able to hear the tube rattling in the wheel arches inside the plastic liners. When these holes plock the result can be several pints of water into the footwells so at the first sign of a drip from behing the glove box, reach for the plastic tube and get waggling.
