1997 Ford Galaxy espen review from UK and Ireland
"Great family car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have had my galaxy now for one month and has had nearly £700 spent on it since then, luckily still under warranty. the drivers electric window motor had broken so needed a new one around £150,3 days later the wiper motor also broke so obviously had to have new one which also cost around £150 has the whole thing had to be replaced. problems sorted, I thought. i collected my car from the local garage who fixed these problems drove 1.3 miles and the revs went erratic, even when the car was standing, but running it was holding at 3000 revs. i used £10 fuel on 12 miles. i then took the car back again to find out that the idle control valve had blown out causing these problems. the following day after the car had been fixed the starter motor decided to play up and have now had to have this replaced. it has had new fuel filter new oil filter, engine flush (clean out the engine, replace oil etc) new window motor new wiper motor new idle control valve new starter motor. it now seems to be OK apart from a tapping noise when the engine is running. i was told it could be an idle tappet and the engine flush would sort it, but it hasn't.apart from these problems the car is OK, not brilliant.
General comments?
Although I have had these problems they have been nothing dramatic. i had a seat Alhambra (very similar car) before my galaxy and they kept breaking down every where I went it would just cut out without warning, very dangerous. we tried everything to fix, but just wouldn't so sold it.
I think the seat drove better than the galaxy, but would never have a seat again.
