1999 Ford Ka 3 review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Except for abysmal fuel consumption, see below, everything is fine until aircon is used, at which point it becomes undriveable. Add in a passenger and you're going nowhere! The problem is that aircon soaks up 10 of the available 60 ponies, leaving it pathetically underpowered.
Fuel consumption:- trying very, very hard the best I can get is 21 mpg (short-shifting through the box, into 5th by 30 mph). Driving briskly this drops to 17 mpg and using aircon gets dangerously close to single figures. I could run a Caddy on this amount of petrol.
The door seals leak in wet and windy weather.
General comments?
The dealer, MSF Ford in Birkenhead, Wirral is mind-numbingly crap. When I complained about the fuel consumption they countered this by producing an emmission's analysis purporting to prove that it was OK. The effect was rather spoiled by the "Engine RPM" box which read "zero". That's a hell of a good trick.
