1997 Ford Ka 1 review from UK and Ireland
"Fun, nippy, different, good value for money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
There have been problems with the electronics between the fuse box and immobiliser.
The oil sump was leaking and had to be replaced.
Drivers door handle broke-this was tricky to fix, but cheaper than going to the garage.
Rust starting to appear in a few places.
perhaps a few problems waiting to emmerge- ie steering, brakes, rear wiper.
General comments?
It's an ace little Ka, as I use it at uni and performs very well in town conditions and on motorways (with a little encouragement between 45-60). It is fun to drive with reasonable speed on country roads.
Basically it's a fiesta in a Ka shell so parts are cheap and interchangeable.
The model is 8 years old and is still being produced in the same exterior form ie it looks identical when parked next to a brand new ka.
Inside wears very well, but looks dated compared to a new ka.
Be aware of corrosion underneath if considering a ka, it's a well established concern on many kas.
Go and get one! the fact that there are so many on the road prove that the ka is a recipe for success.
