2001 Ford Mondeo Zetec review from UK and Ireland
"Very nice car to drive, best on motorways"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear subframe (crossmember) bushes were worn making loud thudding noise going over bumps.
Seized rear calipers and faulty handbrake mechanism.
Faulty boot-locking mechanism, making it pop open occasionally by itself.
Strut-top mounts are weak.
Water gets trapped causing corrosion to the brake pipes underneath the car - next to the fuel tank.
General comments?
Car is quite heavy and could be doing with more acceleration in low rpms.
Interior feels very well made, very quiet inside the car. Little road noise.
Good motorway cruiser.
Very robust engine, it takes all the punishment you give to it and doesn't miss a beat.
Roomy boot and cabin.
Nice comfortable ride, bit still has a sporty drive to it.
