2001 Ford Mondeo Ghia X from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Over rated commodity vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

From day one the clutch was like a switch, either on or off! At the same time I noticed the fuel gauge would zero when the engine stalled. After a few weeks I complained and a new clutch and fuel sender was replaced under warranty. The clutch was much better although it annoyed me that a new car should be shipped with a defective clutch and sender.

Although the car has all the extras like Sat Nav, I have never really enjoyed my Mondeo, and long to replace it with my old Xantia or better still a brand new Citoren C5.

Recently, I took the car in for its 10,000 mile service only to be told my front tyres were worn and illegal! Clearly something is a miss here and I will no doubt have to go into battle for Ford to fix the tracking, to try and stop this excessive tyre wear.

Being a cynic, I suspect though that there is more to this than meets the eye. I seem to remember the old shape mondeos fitted with the diesel engines also used to eat tyres. Can anyone confirm this?

I've also had a fuel filler that wouldn't shut (fixed now), but after 8 months of this car it feels like millstone round my neck. Anyone want to buy this car and put me out of my misery?

General comments?

Overall design of car good.

Sat Nav useful.

Diesel engine really noisy compared to others (Peugeot/Citroen) and heavy as lead.

Not very economical for a diesel.

Day one clutch and fuel sender problems resulting in replacement in first weeks.

Excessive tyre wear - worn out in 10,000 miles!!!

Would never buy another Ford ever!
