"A good handling sporty family hatchback"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Front and rear suspension bushes required changing at 27000 miles. Apparently a common fault, but with no problems with them since.

Taken back to dealer for investigation into screeching noise from engine. This turned out to be from the clutch, after the Ford dealer couldn't find it I had a look myself, but as it is only intermittent I decided to live with it.

Air-bag light flashes periodically, dealer told me it was the wire for the passenger seatbelt pre-tensioner, After dis-connecting and re-connecting the connector under the passenger seat this problem was solved, but still returns periodically.

General comments?

I think handling is absolutely spot on.

Brakes are still originals and are still going strong.

Horrible creaking noise from headlining which I have looked at myself to try and get rid of as it is very annoying, but without joy. (Any suggestions?).

I have a 1997 mondeo si saloon great car a real flyer with great acceleration in second and third gears a far better looking car than the hatchback. I have it four years no real problems except noisey power steering and a starter motor which needed attention it rattled a bit nothing serious. body and trim good, but fabric on drivers seat wore through only 46000 miles from new, alloy wheels and bright red paint still looks good a better looking car than the new model.
