"Good all round family car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rear tailgate electronic release not working.

Air bag light flashing.

Recall for problem with front seat belts.

Recall on corroding brake valves.

Front tyres go out of track very easily.

Rear bumper splits from buffering.

General comments?

Little problems I know, but they can do your head in.

Airbag light flashing can have simple fix. On cars with pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners, elect connection below seat (yellow connector) can be loose. Also the clock spring inside the steering wheel can be set incorrectly and be strained. It is not fixable if this has happened.

Thank you for the flashing airbag light fix! I thought it was going to cost me a fortune, but thanks to your comments mine is solved now. You mention the clock spring in the steering wheel cannot be fixed, If it's any help, Haynes manual (no 1923 most recent edition) gives fairly comprehensive details as to how to set it up.

Thanks again.

Regarding the flashing airbag light, I spent several frustrating hours tracing wiring diagrams backward and forward, checking fuses and relays, but after reading your advice one touch of the yellow plug under the passenger seat worked a treat. Thanks for the advice, simple things can cost pounds to put right!

Interested to hear that the 'electronic unlock' on the tailgate isn't working - is this where, once the doors are unlocked you should be able to open the tailgate by just pushing the button i.e. the key isn't needed.

If so, does anyone know of a quick solution. Mine has the same problem.

Many thanks,

Paul.

I own a 96 1.8 GLX Mondeo and as far as I'm concerned its the best thing since sliced bread only service costs are a let down at £160 for an oil and filter change at my local main dealer, although the standard of service was excellent with helpful staff. Only problems have been a slight oil leak from the front crankshaft seal which was quite cheap at about £45 to get fixed.

Hi, I'm from Australia and I have a Ford Mondeo 1997 GLX 2.0 automatic petrol.

I have just done a timing belt change, fan belt change, and it was leaking from the oil seal. After I got all these things done, the car started to shake, then I got the idle to be set in a different setting, then when I have my car in park the car shakes and over revs.

When I drive the car, it's fine, then when I stop the car at the traffic lights, it shakes again and over revs.

Just the other day I got the car checked for the electronics by Ford motor services department; they couldn't find out what the problem with the car was. All they know that it is over revving and they don't know to how fix the issue. They are just guess where the problem might be.

The cost me to bring the car to have a electronic check up was about $270 (AUD) just for the labour. They don't know where the extra air intake coming from to make the car over rev.

Does anyone know the best solution to fix my problem? It would be really helpful to me if anyone does know anything about this problem.

I have just bought a 2000 W Mondeo LX. The cable for the petrol release doesn't work. Is there a way of adjusting the cable?
