Just changed my W Reg ST24 for a 8 month old ST220 4dr. I ran my ST24 for nearly four years and it only cost me a total of £950 in service bills and that included two sets of tyres. With the service costs in mind and the reliability I purchased a ST220 from Ford Direct £15,400 (Saving £8,550 on new) with only 3000 miles on the clock.
The ST220 has come on leaps and bounds since the last performance Mondeo's. The car has a six speed box with the updated interior. It has variable heated seats, heated front windscreen, headlamp washers, auto lights, auto windscreen wipers, electric heated mirrors, 18" alloys, twin stainless steel pipes, park assist etc...
In my view from looking around at cars for the last two months you cannot get better than the Mondeo for value for money. Ford has delivered a car that has better build quality than BMW and Audi!
I was convinced that the ST220 was the car for me and so went into the showroom to buy one. Then I made it to the receptionist and saw the new 2.2ST TDCi and bought that instead. My second choice was the BMW 330.
What made you choose the ST TDCi over the BMW? (I assume it was the BMW 330d?) I'd be interested in your feedback if you've given both a through testdrive.
Probably Price.
I would have loved a BMW 330D, but could not afford one.
I did buy an ST TDCI and it may not be a straight line match for the 330D, but I reakon it is everywhere else.
Having covered 28k in 10 months in one, I love it. It is genuinely good to drive, cheap to run (except tires, but a 330d won't be any cheaper) and very practicle, especially if you get an estate. Although they are rare compared to the hatch and saloon.
I'd still like a 330d, but although faster I think it will be less mpg, more maintainence costs and more expensive to buy.
Even depreciation, although it is savage on a mondeo, the 3 series is pretty bad too, and the Mondeo ST (in diesel guise) is not doing to badly. I think word is out that it's a great car, although the number of sales reps you see in them may affect its long term residuals.
Love the ST220, but I cover too many miles and had to go for the diesel, and I don't regret it, not at all.
